Review Film The Contractor (2022)

*Heads up: The Contractor movie review contains leaks that may annoy those of you who haven't watched it yet

Chris Pine was most recently seen in the film through his exhibition as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman 1984 (2020). From that point forward, Pine showed up in no movies during 2021. The uplifting news is, you don't need to stand by lengthy for Pine's most up to date appearance on the grounds that the entertainer bounce back in 2022 through a film called The Contractor.

The Contractor is coordinated by Tarik Saleh, who made his Hollywood presentation with this film. Notwithstanding Pine, the film stars Ben Foster, Gillian Jacobs, Eddie Marsan, and Florian Munteanu, entertainers who recently showed up as Razor Fist in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). As a matter of fact, The Contractor was initially wanted to be delivered in December 2021.

The Contractor recounts the tale of James Harper, an American trooper who had to leave because of his medical issue. Truth be told, James needed cash for the necessities of his loved ones. James was then welcomed by his companion to enlist in a confidential military association which gave him a huge compensation. Can James finish the mission from his new position?

Review film The Contractor

Show a veteran's struggle for the survival of his family

The character played by Chris Pine in this film, namely James Harper, can be regarded as a family man. Even though his knee condition was not good, he insisted on continuing to serve as a soldier for the needs of his family. Although in the end, James was still ordered to resign by his superiors because his physical condition was no longer possible. It was these economic demands that made James acquainted with a private military organization that promised more money. James even dared to take a mission without knowing what the real purpose of the mission he was doing. Going on a mission with his friend Mike, James finds many irregularities in the mission he is on. The plot displayed by The Contractor is arguably not something new and tends to be a cliché for an army-themed action film. There's nothing special about the plot, uh, the scenario isn't done well either. There are some forced scenes to build a wistful feel in this film. Unfortunately, this scene actually doesn't have a big role in the storyline of the film. As a family man, James is made to have an unpleasant past with his father. So, there are some moments that show the childhood flashbacks of James and his father. His intention, of course, is to make James a complex character with an unhappy past, so he wants to be a better father to his son. However, the flashback scene doesn't need to exist because this film is ultimately more focused on how James carries out his mission.

The climax is less excited and not memorable

During a mission, James discovered an evil conspiracy from the mission he was on. James felt that the mission he was on was ordered by someone or a higher organization who wanted to seek personal gain. However, until the end of the film, the audience is never told who the real mastermind is that makes James and his colleagues enter into a dangerous mission. James and Mike then express their annoyance towards Rusty Jennings, the person who recruited them to carry out the mission. As explained in the previous point, James and Mike raided Rusty's residence in a reckless and strategyless manner, for the size of an experienced soldier. In the end, James and Mike could get their revenge on Rusty. However, the way they beat Rusty was too easy. Plus, the secret behind the conspiracy about the mission they are on has never been solved. In fact, the audience is presented with another sentimental scene which again feels forced to close the film with emotion.
After appearing in the critically acclaimed Wonder Woman 1984, Chris Pine made a comeback in a film that wasn't memorable at all. The Contractor is arguably the embodiment of the confusion of directors and scriptwriters who want to make an action film with sentimental flavor. Unfortunately, both the action elements and the sentimental elements are not executed well. After reading the review of The Contractor, are you interested in watching this film?
